Re: What Was I Thinking Of?

One of the joys of being a moderator is the ability to construct threads on whim :-)

As per Terry and Cantabridgian's suggestion I have created this thread to discuss the  *cough* lapses of taste or judgment we make from time to time.

My admission - I have a black herringbone suit with a slim fit that I had made a few years ago and have never worn. Like Terry I fell in love with the idea and the concept, unfortunately in the cold light of day...  I still occasionally take it out and look at it sadly.

I have a gabardine (SB; notch lapel; double vents; besom pockets; pants cuffed and w/ buttons for braces) I had made which I thought would be tan, but in daylight (as opposed to the flourescent lighting in my tailor's basement) it looks closer to olive. I still wear it, but I also still do not have a tan gabardine suit ... roll

Re: What Was I Thinking Of?

I once had a pair each of shiny silver and shiny orange silk trousers made in India along with a number of shirts I don't even remember. I never wore them. A few years later, a lady friend of mine made me a shirt out of an old purple kimono that I ended up wearing once and feeling very self-conscious about. None of these set me back any significant amount, but they all served as object lessons.

Several English-made suits which have trousers with high-back/fishtails that look absolutely ridiculous.

Re: What Was I Thinking Of?

Aside from a couple of poor suiting choices (big plaids) most of my missteps have been shirt related. I confess to an unfortunate "stripey" period at T&A. I also got jiggy with collars (the "Pat Riley" and some borderline "Goodfellows"), cuffs (mitered and cocktail) and the occasional epaulet.

An alpaca "Bear Coat"  Warm enough for arctic temperatures, but out of place on the streets of NYC.
