l like a nice flat (just showing) hanky to add a touch of casual elegance (casual because the hanky is more casually placed when l wear them). l also like hanky's because they balance out a suit better (the left pocket doesn't look so naked). Hanky's can be worn so many different ways, and all styles say contrasting things (flair square= l love myself showoff: points = t.v try hard nerdboy: touch-of-flat = elegant tough guy with a who gives a f*ck attitude).

That was good.
My parents always insisted I carry a pocket handkerchief, even when casual in jeans. My parents always carried them themselves. I have to say, it was good training especially if youre at a pub that doesnt exactly cater to the elite or a Yankees game and in both cases the paper towels have run out in the men's room. I still carry a white cotton kerchief in my jeans back pocket, you never know when a clean bit of linen will come in handy.
As for women and pocket squares:
I have been in situations where Ive given them to women who have spilled things on themselves, cut themselves or are crying. They usually make a big fuss over it which sadly signals to me that most men consider trinkets more valuable than women. Usually these girls, when Ive known them well enough, clean them and bring them back to me.
At a recent St. Patricks's day party a wild girl revelling in her gaelic heritage and sexy enough to get close to me plucked my green with gold figures silk pocket square from my jacket breast pocket and swiped it somewhere she thought was romantic but made my breath halt (and not in the good way). Before I could say anything she put the square back into my jacket pocket . Needless to say the square was washed and the jacket dry cleaned.
Excellent article.
It reminded me of a girlfriend I once had who was drawn like a magnet to anything lacy and frilly. We were in the habit of making the rounds of antique shops, and there was invariably a selection of embroidered linens that she would inspect diligently and at great length.
Raymond Chandler makes a sizeable deal out of describing pocket handkerchiefs in his novels, especially the way they coordinated with various suits and ties.
Yes...what is with people pulling my pocket square out....especially with all the thought and effort to make my square puff a certain way...one of my pet peeves
