He was by far the best Bond, bringing self deprecating humour to the job, good to see he's enjoying his retirement. He strikes me as gentleman in the David Niven and John Le Mesurier mold:

Roger Moore was always my favorite and I think he hasn't received all the respect he deserves for his role playing. I think he brought a level of class and elegance you don't see in the others which was due to his humour. For instance I like Daniel C but he is more of a thug type bond and not so suave. Sean Connery was sort of in the middle. I think P brosnan was the closest to Moore but still not there.
Also it helps that I thought the Moore movies had better plots in general and filmed in nicer European locations. This was the first time I had gotten a glimpse of Chateau Chantilly (a view to a kill) and Vaux-le-Vicomte (moonraker). The first movie that really sold me on bond/roger moore was "for your eyes only". God I thought that movie was totally insanely awesome.
Don't forget 'The Saint.'
I agree with Moore as best Bond which is tough when you are not the first to play the role.
Am the only one who considers Connery to be the best Bond? Moore's humour was forced and detracted from the plot and action. Brosnan and Dalton lacked the necessary toughness. Craig lacks the necessary charm and charisma - too cold and detached.

In addition to Christopher Plummer, Charles Dance would have made a good Bond.
Has anyone here ever heard of a guy called Sid James? Apparently he was the favorite choice of Ian Fleming.
