More and more posts on this forum are devoted to mocking other fora, especially AAAC. At best, I find these comments mildly amusing . Given that a number of the FNB Forum (Marc Grayson and others) have posted excellent and knowledgeable comments on the supposed topic of this forum-The Wardrobe-I must say that I find this emphasis on deriding others to be a collosal waste of time.I invite comments from others, hoping that they will be of a constructive nature. Sincerely, rsmeyer
Your point is well taken, which is probably ironic given my authorship of the original inane post that has developed into a voluminous compendium of fora inanity. On balance, though, I think if you were to comb through the various threads, you'd find the juvenile posts (To which I plead guilty to being party) are far outweighed by more substantive, thoughtful, and incisive posts and threads. Perhaps you're focusing mostly on the inane thread and a few other similarly sophomoric threads, which reflect that boys will be boys and that we're not dealing with matters of life and death.

PCLK ?
Meyer--
I've enjoyed your contributions to this forum, but I think you're a bit off base here. Most of the posts of which you speak are contained within a couple of threads.
We all like Grayson's posts. Be they substantial or less so. I myself love to contribute to the latter as much as I do the former. Indeed, my attempts to incorporate some of Grayson's comments on AAAC (like his great post on Lobb St James v. Lobb Paris) was met with a stern e-mail from the Monk under the Malinda acct with a lovely message listing Grayson's alleged "sins". Though the thread they really didn't like was my linking on AKAC to the FNB interview with Press! A quick search for my responses to Grayson would show that there are times that I disagree with him or take issue with a post or two. But you don't see Grayson freaking out like some prima-donna, do you? Such can't be said for some on the other forums, er, fora.
As for Tutee's posts, there is at least one thread on here that I started that praises Tutee's contributions. Like Tony, I'm slightly suspect of the original context in which the AA illustrations first appeared. I don't know that anyone has been sufficiently critical of the those original contexts when discussing the illustrations themselves. (e.g. the brown shoe examples or some of the university style interpretations). I posted a long time ago on AAAC the problems with such a approach to the illustrations in general, and it's was heart warming to see that my concerns were echoed in a recent post by Borat on LL.
As long as the "inane" type threads are kept to one or two distinct threads, I say they provide a useful purpose. The inane thread does provide a useful outlet for both the rant and the exposition of general and specific BS. And a thread like "You're fired" provides a useful look into the fraud and prevarication of our sacred idols.
Inane Post of the Day debunks the myths floating around on the other fora and provides comic relief at the same time.
To all who kindly responded to my original comments (and I do mean all!) : I do think that the proof of my opinion regarding negativity on FNB is shown not only by the number of entries on, for instance, the Inane Posts thread but by the intensity of the comments there, which seem to me far more strongly worded and more thought out than most of the original comments on this forum on strictly sartorial matters. I admit to not having perused such threads very much, because I find them boring and usually not amusing. While the above comments on Etutee's threads on the LL are interesting and worthwhile, my point is that his threads are completely germaine to the topic of male attire. When a forum is called "The Wardrobe", I believe that should be the topic-although I have found the asides regarding literature interesting. I am all for strong opinions about topics, but not ad hominem attacks, and I find too many FNB commentaters seem to take excessive glee in attacking other individuals. I truly wonder about people who seem to get vicarious pleasure from attacking others by using the anonimity of the internet-one reason I have not altered my name when posting. At any rate, this is a free country and a free forum, and if I made anyone out there furrow their brow, then I think I accomplished something. Again, thank you all (and that includes you!) for the replies. Richard
