personally i dont find patrick norton's look particularly offensive, i think if i saw a bloke dressed like that in town i would probably think he was reasonably well dressed myself, going by todays standards anyway. its a little dull as a plain grey suit, plain white shirt & plain blue tie lacks anything with any pezzaz, but it looks 'professional' and sort of efficient in a utilitarian way (kind of how id like my accountant to look, neat but not so exciting so as to contemplate embezzelment).
we probably expect a lot since he runs a tailoring house, so probably are judging him by rather high standards. if i was to nitpick the jacket looks slightly too slim for him, a little more width down the chest & waist would give him more wearing ease and let him move around without causing the pulling he is getting as he stands with a lean to one side. otherwise it looks like a rather ordinary west end suit to me!
in his defense ive met great cutters who look like they are dress at M&S, they are trades people for gods sake! a tailors recently advised me that an apprentice on the row earns minimum wage for several years, finally when you hit the top of the food chain as a head cutter you can earn in the region of £50k. i work in the markets and thats what we pay our 23 yr old secretary (& she doesnt do anything most of the day apart from paint her nails and walk around chatting to her friends in the office)!

Don't know about the show fitness bit, I've got that shape, and I'm not fit. I found that out today after lifting a sofa bed up four stories.
Point taken on norton being a businessman rather than a tradesman himself Briggs. I think his 'award' from gq says more about the value of that publications views rather than norton himself (I guess it's not your fault if you receive an award which you don't deserve, rather like the recent Nobel peace prize being awarded to the EU while Greece goes down in flames and Athens erupts in violent protest, you have to just write off the award having any importance whatsoever..let's not get started on British knighthoods haha).
In regard to tailors and cutters, yes they are very much old fashioned tradesmen, it would be unfair to expect them to dress as the customers do and frankly wouldnt make any sense as clothes have to fit into the context of your day to day life. From my observation after work they pile into pubs full of the trade after work (I frequently have gone into some of the pubs around saville row after visiting shops in the area and seen people I have dealt with on and off the row roll in .. from observation these places are quite grotty and v Dickensian ) You would look pretty ridiculous walking in one of these pubs in a Chalkstripe double breasted suit
Formby, yes it's a bit more than a corporate secretary would get, but she needs to work market hours 7-7 and organises a lot of stuff like travel, entertainment etc and knows how to keep clients holding the line without pissing them off too much which is skill I guess

^^ In my experience, the cutters and front of house staff on Savile Row dress well. They drink in the Windmill and the Burlington Arms (Mulligan's has gone!) that are decent pubs where a good DB suit would not look out of place.

that is a brilliant photo .. this must be a new neopolitan thing .. talking about spalla camicia is now boring even the iGentry .. its now all about see through sleeves .. proof of quality is how clearly you can make out the shirt pattern below.
albert where do you drink exactly? quite curious ... imagining lock stock & 2 smoking barrels type places .. where you knock your drink into someone and they set you on fire ..

^^ The Admiral Cod was done up a few years ago. Has it gone downhill quickly? It's just too busy, like most central London pubs, for my liking. West End pubs tend to be grotty too.
windsor castle & admiral cod are both v nice pubs .. gastropub type places & not rough at all! the worst fight you could get into at a place like this is bumping into one of the cast of made in chelsea (reality show with sloane ranger types for anyone reading outside of the uk) & them swinging a man bag at you hehe
the others not sure about, although i have unfortunately frequented quite a few bars in the wharf .. awful god forsaken places imo full of self important suits uuggghh!
