Changes to the country in the Thatcher years include:
finance deregulated aka banking turned into the wild west
house prices becoming unaffordable, except as investments for the rich
paying tax made optional for the super rich
the utilities given away aka selling the family silver
abolishing free education for the over 18s
workers' rights abolished
Short term thinking that has resulted in the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer - unfortunately most fall into the latter category.
Multinationals run the UK, and it's a dump, and getting steadily worse.
Where have I been? Suffering under New Labour. Before that: suffering under Thatcher. You think my list is of Labour inventions? All Thatcher innovations.
^ Does not make that much difference Thatcher or her Labour successors. It just continued, more of the same.
Higher ed grants abolished and replaced by loans under Thatcher - I was at uni at the time. (Poll tax era - how long until that is revived?)
Is Dave C planning to abolish or curb tuition fees? As it's a free market wet dream, it's unlikely.

Without Thatcherism we might not have had the Sex Pistols album.
Just think where that would leave us - ELP - progressing forward !
And Supergroups - remember them - even heard a good one?
Ever heard a great single from one?

^ The mass immigration would have happened regardless of which government was in charge. Political party is largely irrelevant these days. Osbourne and Mandleson were both on the same luxury yacht with a Russian oligarch/crook looking for their own personal gain.
Labour never rolled back privatisations, instead it went overboard with PFI initiatives. The great unwashed do as they are programmed to do. The movers and shakers are a different crowd altogether.
