Maybe to help with dating from the other end, I don't believe that any 346 is older than 1950... as far as I am aware the 346 line started in 1950 to replace the "Sixth Floor Shop" line that had catered to undergrads during the 1940s. 346 was the name of a line of Brooks toiletries before then.

^^^ I agree that the lapels look very "1970s." However, I have seen suits and jackets from the 1940s with lapels in the 3 1/2 inch range with built up shoulders. 12BarBlues posted a great picture of some 1940s style suits in this thread I started some time ago about the evolution of the sack jacket 1863 - pre WWI:

Yeah, it's true you can't always judge date by the lapel width. I too have seen some '50s era stuff with wide lapels, maybe not brooks though.

I think that the wash and wear label (yellow / gold on white) was used from the 1960s into the 1980s. I have seen and personally own (or have owned) wash and wear pieces from each of those decades. I also suspect that the NECK TIE label with white letters on black was also used from the 1960s into the 1980s as per our previous discussion on the labels thread. But that is just my take on it.
