Re: British Tweed Reinvented from Vintage to Today

^The inherent contradiction in the US is that the "casual" narcissism dovetails with a paranoid fear of appearing to be vain.
Vanity is seen as a vice, whereas in reality it can be a very positive force for you and those around you.
Step into a bus or a subway, if you must :p , who are you going to sit next to? My money is next to the well put together person who smells nice rather than the smelly slob.

My patients always ask, "Do I need this?" (plastic surgery), as if it's somehow not only wrong to want to want to improve your looks, but to do it "unnaturally". I tell everybody that nobody needs plastic surgery, but that sometimes is a kind lie.

Re: British Tweed Reinvented from Vintage to Today

Its indeed a paradox that the most vain and narcissistic era - now- people (well mainly men) are afraid of being seen to take care of their appearance lest they be seen as caring too much. It s OK to care in a shallow away - post "likes" on a facebook page about breast cancer or wear a pink badge but very very suspect to actually go out and do something about bowel cancer - which kills more people and isn't "sexy" - by voting to change policies.
