No, basically, clothes have been impossible since 1967. Up until then there was hope.

I like suitable wardrobe .. quite conservative but if you want to pick up ideas on how to wear traditional clothing it's very good. Put this on can be good for someone wanting to understand the basics of how to buy quality items etc..

Contrary to lies of FNB and Woofboxer, I (and most of the other "Buff Bastards") have been banned from posting on this forum. There are only a few posters left so don't waste your time on here. This forum is dead and nobody cares.

Re: Good clothing blogs

I notice that most of the blogs are about the wonder of the blogger's personal taste or whatever sensational look they can find on the street or writing about the latest and greatest, even from a traditional shop. Problem is the outsider aspect of most of them. I think it is dangerous to get style tips for a conservative profession from someone who really never gets to meet or even more importantly understand the mindset of these men and what makes them tick. I think it is also bad to get tips from someone who has an interest but not an affinity for style or clothing. How does one know whether this affinity is in place or whether they have good taste or not? Well that's what suggests talent in oneself. One yard stick is that men who rely solely on old pictures for style and clothes generally cannot interpret the current or where trends are going.

It is difficult to know what advice or write up about style will help someone. I like to think that I remain conscious of this issue and that I bring a love of clothes combined with experience of what works and what doesn't in a metropolitan, professional setting, as well as for after hours fun. However, I realize that i often fall into the This-is-what-i-like rut. I could do better if I had the time to really make observations and a much bigger budget for photos etc without any need to appease sponsors. I have been approached to do something like this but I just don't want to. For me, this remains a hobby.

Even though clothing is a series of concentric circles from the personal (second skin) to the tribal (acceptable totems) to the most general (classics) there are constants you can identify. That's where I try to go. it is not easy because clothing is a matter of being a snob while trying to teach about it is a matter of enlightened generosity. There is a lot of tension there.

Today I got more from one line from a maker than most blogs can supply in a year.

Re: Good clothing blogs

I think the main problem with the majority of clothing blogs is, as you say, they are mostly personal dairies of 'what I like' - but passed off to the punters as gospel truth, unwritten law, cosmological constant, etc.

One just has to understand that blogs, like fashion magazines, are really only there for inspiration rather than strict adherence, even if the blogs themselves suggest otherwise.

Re: Good clothing blogs

There is a sense of sameness out there with style blogs. I am still seeing camouflage fabrics hiked up over Quoddy collabos in spades just about everywhere online. Collectively I just call that style #menswear and don't give it a second thought.

No, no, no -

Point number one just requires money and to be dictated to by somebody else.

Point number two is just plain silly - My father always called his ample tum 'Looking prosperous'. A Georgian idea, I fancy, of what a well set up man should look like. Well dressed, well fed, nice and ruddy.

Point number three is in the poorest of taste - A Gentleman would have said 'Hey Presto'.

Finally, there is no such thing as a Republican - They are all the serfs of one king or another in reality. You may as well be talking about unicorns and other imaginary beasts.

Keep your overweight father out of the discussion.

Really one just requires money and a little common sense.

I think he was the perfect weight for who he was - He would fill a taxi rather like you or I would fill an overcoat.

You are very wrong to assert that money and sense have anything to do with anything. They don't.

Re: Good clothing blogs

Why use your fat dad to make a mockery of me? He is the same man that had your mother clamp her lips on his member before she kissed you good night. The same man that had your mother sprawled out onto the same Giant vibrator table you ate at minutes later. The same man who groped your mother discretely as she told you that there is no suit nibbling monster in your closet. Surely, you'd handle his e-image with a little more care.

Re: Good clothing blogs

Ok! I will go away. The sheer force of your wit has sent me reeling. Your choppy sentences and direct demands clearly indicate you are used to getting your way with as little as resistance as possible. You most certainly are a CEO or 'huge deal' in the workplace. Why should it be any different here?

Men scurry out of your path like mice, as I will do now. In your chosen name, a single letter, I see not dullness but discretion, and that dash is decorative as you are creative. In your avatar I see a man with audacious peaked lapels, clearly a man if great power and esteem, annoyed at being interrupted while looking through documents--contracts no doubt that are obviously worth millions of dollars and man power. Is that you, are you the white industrialist titan?

Is that why I should care what you think at all?
