so reseurrecting this tweed thread .. im looking at various tweeds for a sportsjacket .. any suggestions of books to look through guys? i spent some time looking at porter & harding (harrisons) .. i liked several patterned green tweeds in the 'glorious twelfth' collection .. specifically no 25311, 25302, 25326 ..

my only issue is that these are 12 oz clothes & from what i understand not true tweeds but worsted wools which look like a tweed .. the other alternative is from their 'glenroyal' collection .. ~15oz .. no 44555 looks nice to my eye .. not sure if i should look at their 'hartwist' collection as its a 19.5 oz cloth?

would appreciate an opinion.. ta

^ thanks formby, ill take a look at the w bill book when i see my tailor, i read somewhere that you can visit w bill but only with your tailor ..

the other option is to go for a normal worsted wool, perhaps mixed with angora wool, which i have seen made up in a few places, quite different from tweed in that its slightly fluffy as you would expect ..

i like coloured glencheck worsted wools for sports jackets .. so may look in this direction as well ..

as you can see bespoke can open a minefield of options .. which you can then spend endless time thinking and talking about .. if i included the time i spend thinking and looking at cloths it would outweight the price by several times

ive just had a look at the moonbeam .. thanks for the tip formby .. 36673 (purple with a black/dark blue over check) & 36682 (mid blue with a red & dark blue/black over check) are intriguing.. is yours the no 36669?, an interesting one as well.

harrisons describe these as an 'urban tweed' .. are you finding the wool angora mix (bit worried about the angora part as never had any experience with it) is holds up well to normal usuage .. im planning to wear in my day to day life so needs to be able to handle the tube (london underground)/parks/coffee shops without getting too beaten up! ive worn cashmere jackets (100% cashmere cheviot) and had a couple of disasters which were probably my own fault in terms of wearing down prematurely from sitting around on rought surfaces etc!

^ I say dilemma as I actually like a soft handle to cloth, the halo effect, but i live in fear of wearing cashmere or angora .. ive never tried angora (or angora blends) but have heard stories of it 'felting' like crazy leaving bits of rabbit fur all over you, not sure if this affects only poor quality angora or not ? .. ive had some experience of wearing mid to heavy ( ~13/14oz) 100% cashmere in sportsjackets and i found it a bit delicate for the sort of lifestyle i lead which is very much a down to earth one consisting of using london underground, going to london pubs & bars and generally doing regular stuff as compared to what I imagine some bespoke customers do which is sitting in the back of a chaeffeur driver roller & lunching at claridges (where they probably arent likely to spill your starter down your front unlike some of the gaffs i frequent where this sort of thing is almost obligatory )
