Are X Mas Sales worth going to? There are two camps .. the first think there are good bargains to be had, the other school of thought believes them to be a trap to catch the unweary as junk is wheeled out with the lure of 'discounts' .. thoughts?
Im in London and the sales seem to have already started rather bizarrely .. i always used to remember them starting on boxing day but they seem to be gettting earlier and earlier .. perhaps in a few years theyll start in late summer!

Worth going to if you know exactly what you want and can perform an in-and-out surgical strike.
But not worth it at all if you're just ambling around in the crowds hoping to spot a bargain in the way that, er, women tend to do.
like your advice Sal .. surgical precision .. like a US drone attack!
need to get some shirts and ties .. anyone know when Turnbull or Drakes have their sale starting?
^ yep def a lot of them .. they love the bul-bully ..got knows what british designers would do without them though .. go bust no doubt.
what about good mens shops? do any of them have a sale .. ?
does drakes do a sale in their clifford street store or online (would be better) ? i saw the pop up thing they did a while back but also heard the queues were outrageously long with a ticket system to get in like apple store during a product launch .. i didnt want to waste a whole day standing around so avoided it (for a modest saving on something that i probably half wanted i didnt think it was worth the hassle).

^ The new owners have made significant changes. Drake's ties are now unlined like Rubinacci and Marinella. Prices have been increased by around 20 to 25% too.
Turnbull & Asser usually have a big selection of sale ties that are made in their South London factory.
yes, most are now unlined although they still make a few lined which i prefer personally (sods law dictates that they are the most fugly ones in the shop) .. the new owners are the same people that own armoury who seem to go for italiany type stuff eg livarano .. so it seems to be going in that direction. v disconcerting.
prices are frankly ludicrous for a tie .. £115 for the nicer designs and materials .. wtf?! 115 for a tie .. ive paid that before but in the knowledge that i was being ripped off as its not a great deal of silk & theres hardly any work that goes into each tie. if you contrast that with a saville row suit .. it makes the tailors look like they are positively a bargain!

If you still want to try Graham Browne they have a sale
THURSDAY, 20 DECEMBER 2012
Graham Browne sale
As per usual, Graham Browne is doing a sale over Christmas - on the days when the guys are still working but most of us are tucked up at home with a glass of mulled wine.
The sale runs on the 27th, 28th and 31st of December. During that period any suit from the bunches comes with a free waistcoat or extra pair of trousers - so a three piece for the price of a two piece. Also, the boys scored a bit of a coup in securing all the remaining H Lesser cloth from their discontinued 80s and 90s bunches. Sale price for those is £795 for a suit.
As if that weren't enough, some vintage W Bill jacketings have been brought over from the Sackville Street archive - see the Graham Browne blog for more details.

anyone know when turnbull & asser have their sale? Also does BUdd shirts have a sale?
cheers!
Ede & Ravenscroft. Shirts from £29.
They were marking up jackets on Saturday. I should have been at football but it was rained off.
I have also had very positive experience with sam hober. They have quality products at great prices all year round. Also they conveniently always forget to mark the real price on the customs declaration and hence package never gets hit by duties. Actually many asian outfits I have dealt with do the same. Sure way to generate repeat business from me.
On a different note, anyone know if there is a factory sale on John lobbs. Maybe if the stars are aligned I could score a Chapel in 7! (yeah right I'm dreaming on)
