It's style Jim, but not as we know it.
Clown.

Formby, I hope you ain't gonna start a Jimmy Savile thread.
He is the best living British artist and his current landscape phase is a beacon of skill, craftmanship and art being the perfect tonic to the utter vacuous shite of the conceptual art world.
The man is a national treasure.
His style befits his personality, although he is in a moldy fig stage these days, which does reflect quite aptly his positive view on tobacco smoking.
Hockney is so good at what he does, including dressing.
And if I had the money, faced with the choice of hanging a Lucien Freud or Francis Bacon vs a Hockney, guess which one I'd choose.
I gather from the above post, that this Hockney chap takes himself much too seriously, and dresses himself ironically in the most unflattering way possible while presenting a distinct artistic vision. Clowns also present an artistic vision. Beyond the hurbis of the artiste, he still looks like a clown.

But it's all about the image dahling. There is a photograph somewhere og thois older chap in an outrageous suit for the opening of the Ivy Sytle exhibition at the MFIT. He looks great because he understands a little goes a long way, otherwise it becomes a parody.

I always knew he couldn't paint worth a damn, now I know he applies the same 'talent' to dressing.
Very sadly Formby, looks like you, Chevere, Grandfather's Pants and myself are the only ones who can recognise genius and art on this thread.
The early ones look like most WAYWT postings seen today.

Cigarette smokers have rights. The right to be outside in the rain as I don't want second hand smoke. Pipe and good quality cigar smokers welcome in the patio.

Sorry can't get into it.
what type of thing do you prefer Giz?
I can take inspiration from various things, probably because I never copy. I can certainly nick tricks from Hockney... But without ever looking like him.
I suspect that's the way to do it... To quote Mr. Punch.
