The Rockford Files — James Garner as Jim Rockford, more or less down-at-heels L.A. private eye who sometimes wears sack sport coats. Mid 1970s. Lots of wide lapels and leisure suits.  Great stuff. Get it from NetFlix since nobody has the sense to put the show in syndication.

About the only* TV I watch is COPS.

The only thing better is that once I watched a few episodes of My Names Earle and it had Earle and Co appearing on COPS - hilarious.

* not true - I occasionally watch a Louis Theroux doco if theres one on. I do also watch those Docos about constructing BIG buildings, or bridges or ships.

Watched Little Dorritt on 2009 series with the wife over a couple of days.
Loved it.

Watched a documentary about Claridges hotel. Featured a Cuban plutocrat who keeps a range of clothes and huge collection hats on the premises for when he turns up. There was also an American who was happy he could wear a suit when he was eating in public -iGent fantasy land.

Monster Bug Wars (a show about arthropods which fight each other in the wild) is quite addictive viewing. Ever wondered who would win in a fight between a wolf spider and a scorpian? And who would have thought the daddy long legs was such a slick killer of other spiders!

^I caught a couple of episdodes of that when I was in Houston earlier this year, thought it was very good. Now I see it's on UK channels.

Last night: The Story of The Good Life, a documentary on the sit-com and then straight after that a documentary on the UK Christmas No.1's.

Re: What TV have you been watching?

A programme about rich Middle Eastern playboys driving expensive, noisy supercars around Knightsbridge.

The neighbours were upset but could only complain in a suppressed English way. They did not confront the culprits. Plod pulled them over to check paperwork and impounded some cars. Car fanatics monitored their every move.

The playboys seemed quite personable. Mind you, that is in comparison to the likes of Jeremy Clarkson, so not much of a contest really.

Re: What TV have you been watching?

I've been watching Midsommer Murders on ITV. Since John Nettles left, the plots have become utterly ridiculous and the ham acting is a joke. It's now more of a comedy sitcom than a crime series.

I am watching Michael Portillo's Continental Railway Journeys. He is a very good presenter (relaxed, eloquent and informative) and seems much happier than when he was a politician.

Funnily enough, watching that myself, didn't know the Hague's Peace Palace was funded by a Brit.

He does seem much more relaxed and has an easy laid back style in presenting which suits the subject well. He also comes across as a thoroughly decent enough chap.

Re: What TV have you been watching?

^Well, there's a few archetypal pimp racist portrayals of west indians in a couple of episodes of The Sweeney and The Professionals.

The chief entertainment I get from 1970s television is the vast fashion differences between now and then, and of course, the blatant sexualisation of women as objects of titillation. And as you have observed Yuca, there was a lot of boozing and drink driving going on, especially amongst cops.

The Young Victoria on BBC2 - lots of over-acting sadly.

Re: What TV have you been watching?

Quite a few people have recommended "Life On Mars" to me.

I suppose the 70s was the last gasp of London as a truly English city, before the great multicultural experiment that continues today. And if it such a wonderful city, why is there so much white flight of the native cockneys and middle classes? But even in the 70s it was insanely expensive compared to the provinces.

FA Cup - Van Persie scored a late equaliser for Man Ure at West Ham (2-2).
