^Fatty liver is endemic, in some reports as many as 38% of the US population. It is fully recoverable depending at what stage it is at, age and whether they can identify what is causing it. There's also research out there that says in some cases it is not necessarily an indicator of problems to come.
In my case, I was drinking too much, if truth be known about two bottles of whisky a week and sometimes some beer on top and I had put on 20kgs. This kind of built-up over over 12 to 18 months - drinking every night and the best whiskies available - and was more to do with living the good life than any inherent alcohol problem. When the doctor told me I had fatty liver and my bilirubin was up I nearly fucking collapsed in fear and shock. When they said whether I needed help in giving up drinking, I was also somewhat taken a back. In any event, I gave up for three months with no DT's or any other alcoholic withdrawal symptoms, or having to go to AA. A couple of nights for the first week where I felt a drink would have aided sleep better, but that was all.
People's drinking habits have significantly changed in places like the UK. Men would go to the pub at weekends and get rat arsed and have the rest of the week to recover. Now people are coming in from work and having a bottle of wine every night. Three bottles of 13-14% wine and you are already at 28 units a week. I know loads of people who drink a bottle of wine every night and plent of women who drink half a bottle plus. These people are operating in the region I was at, so I assume they have or will have it.
The other problem is that your liver doesn't feel the damage, so alcohol is a silent killer in that respect.
Your brother is right Robbie, but how much of this is because of better diagnostic techniques too?
Anyway, I am not going to let my brush with fatty liver curtail my enjoyment of alcoholic drinks, but I approach them now with extreme respect. I measure my drinks now with a jigger and after three whiskies on a weekend evening, its time to quit.

If the government doesn't reply (they won't) then l send a notice of fault. If they don't reply again (they won't), then l send a notice of default. If they don't reply again after 5 days the entire matter is finished. But...if they do choose to contract l send them three pages of terms and conditions and a fee schedule as seen above. They would be absolutely mad to contract, but if they choose to l could put the money towards some John Lobb bespokes.
