I believe in broken in shoes but this is disgusting.
Since Cleverley charge £495 (yes, £495, I'm not joking) to re-sole their bespoke shoes I'm not surprised he let them get into this state.
An amazing shoe shine at 13:12

l am mucking around at the moment doing a pair of brown captoes with a mirror shine. They look very very shiny indeed.
I have a 20 year old pair of shoes that looks like they have about ½ the wear of these. Not bad at all.

but shooey at £500 for a resole what is the point of infinite rebuilds? even if a goodyear shoe lasts only 5 years you could buy pretty much anything at the top end of RTW goodyear welted shoe market every 5 years for the same cost as a resole on a bespoke shoe from cleverley ..
it makes no economic sense whatsoever .. but if you respect the workmanship then great .. but im not going to pay someone £500 to put a new sole on every couple of years ..

its to cover overall business costs & profit .. rent & rates in that arcade would be expensive ..
personally i wouldnt spend such sums of money on bespoke shoes unless i was making such a lot of money so as to make a few thousand pounds irrelevant .. i suspect most of their customers fall into this category .. not for me im afraid.

Topy = $30 and any decent cobbler can do it.
Is that blasphemy??
lf you have a Cleverley with a close cut waist resoling could be a big problem for most other cobblers and shoe makers. lt makes you reliant on sending the shoes back to Cleverley.
l think the John Lobb resoles would be much more pricey. A real luxury brand (big name, the biggest dreams - now king of the mountain, quality) with luxury prices to match.

I have an interesting situation with a pair of bespoke Cleverleys from the 60s/70s (I suspect as they have a widish bill/toecap) which have been bunned as above and the vamp area has had to much bunning/polishing where it should never go. As well it has dried the leather so there is (maybe) some mild surfacing cracking. I may be wrong - stripping them might reveal it's all old polish.
The shoes were resoled at some stage with nice oak bark soles and don't need resoling. The shoes fit me now I have dumped wearing orthotics but there is a little foot impression issue on one pair I want to resolve. I believe they can be flattened out a little as they did this to a pair of 40s suede spectators I have.
I'll keep you posted.
Only other thing I can see is that none of you blokes will ever be a Prince Charles. You are all spendthrifts LOL!

^Shooey's footwear is his most concrete and possible remaining tether to the world the rest of us walk on.
