I bought a Crombie new, many years ago (in my pre-ivy life). It still looks very striking and stylish, but it really doesn't seem to go with anything in my wardrobe, now I'm ivy. Shame because it cost a fortune, and it's a lot nicer than the one linked to above. There's no way I'll get rid of it, so perhaps I have some hopes of working it into an outfit.
I have three Crombies- a black one for work and funerals and formal occasions, a British Warm and a Herringbone with raglan sleeves.
People sometimes see the classic Crombie as too smart for ordinary use. Something my brother said when he got my father's old coat. Many on here do not want to be too smart or 'suited and booted' but my generation (apart from the hippy types) put on suits to go out.
I agree the check I posted is not the first coat I would buy. I have seen them around. A fear is that particular check going the way of the Burberry check and being adopted by chavs.

I hate these. The fact that it is in corduroy (and the worst sort of green corduroy at that) makes it even worse.
However, I realise that this sort of thing appeals to many of you 40R hipsters. So this is a public service announcement. Or a spoiler for some poor sod that has already spotted it .

Woof,
Are you a hipster, or spotter, or both?
I do have a soft spot for Invertere items, eapecially buffer coats, whether that makes me a hipster I don't know?
Also a fan of the buffer coat, but too big for me - not dissimilar to my shawl collar peacoat.
The buffer coat does not appeal to me personally but the DOE looks really quite sharp in one
as i am sure Tom & Woof do.
I'm afraid not, as happens regularly, I only remembered the auction when it was too late! I seem less and less bothered about ebay at the moment.
It went for about £60 which isn't a bad price. But I suppose it saves me having yet another coat hanging around, cluttering the place up.
Wish this McGregor was my size - https://www.etsy.com/listing/120031045/vintage-mcgregor-corduroy-mens-lined
Not on eBay but my pal Giuseppe has a nice looking 15.5 medium Hugger in his shop for a bargain price.
