Re: Whats Cooking Tonight - UK Edition

The contagion is spreading, now in Dutch frozen meals.....which kinda' shocked me, because few Dutch people are daft enough to eat over processed frozen food, other than croquets or whatever they're called and they do have horse meat in legally.

Hopefully, this will have a positive effect of turning the Brits back from the road of obesity and fat flabby consumers of processed shit into the light of green organic produce.

America? Probably.  The world?  The rest of Europe does not have such low standards of food as the Brits.  The only people I know who I regard as actually being able to cook (admittedly I have high standards) are not British.

I find Nigella to be narcissistic and totally over-rated.

Contrary to lies of FNB and Woofboxer, I (and most of the other "Buff Bastards") have been banned from posting on this forum. There are only a few posters left so don't waste your time on here. This forum is dead and nobody cares.

I quite fancy the French PM's girlfriend, Valerie Trierweller.

There's something about Nigella, I can't decide whether I like her or not.

Re: Whats Cooking Tonight - UK Edition

^The food in the UK was always pretty basic, but meat and three veg and the full English breakfast was not without its charms or nutritional value. Like many of my generation, I have always preferred Chinese, Indian and continental food. The traditional English breakfast, including kippers and tea with milk and sugar is seen as something quite exotic overseas.

Also the UK has long since been able to feed itself from products grown and raised within its shores, there was problem with corn being imported in the early 1800s.

The Brits are like the Russians when it comes to drink, we have a whole culture around getting pissed and this is not replicated elsewhere. But other cultures do drink to excess, but in their own homes as it is not culturally acceptable to do this outside of the home.

Here in the Netherlands there is still great high street butchers and fishmongers with real fresh fish and that is absent in the UK. The aisles in the supermarkets are sparten by UK terms, there is a total lack of ready and frozen meals which are an abundance in the UK.

Over the last 20 years the Brits has become podgy and flabby compared to the continental, the UK has gone the route of the US with a little more booze. Of course work conditions and pay are much harsher in the UK then in the other serious European contenders.

Re: Whats Cooking Tonight - UK Edition

I'd say all our food is lacking in nutrients, the only food I've found that has any decent taste or nutrients is from somewhere like decent farm shop, Able & Cole, or stuff grown in the garden.

When I started to eat a more nutritious diet, I found I craved food less, I think we misunderstood the need to over eat, with our bodies need to try and require nutrients. I find I eat half as much now. And half twice the energy for it.

Re: Whats Cooking Tonight - UK Edition

It wasn't me who said the only way to eat well in UK is to have breakfast 3 times a day.

I'm always tickled that its ok to eat cute lambs, nice little pigs, steers, chooks, ducks and fish but its not OK to eat horse.

I was surprised a the amount of shelf space given to Ready to Eat meals in UK and Ireland supermarkets. A reasonable amount of it was good food, salads* etc,  at good value I thought. Nothing like it here.

* mind you I suspect the salads were being discounted at the end of the day because they weren't selling.
