A very interesting essay: 'Does Film Noir mirror the culture of contemporary America?'. The English is a little stilted in places (it was written by a Dutch lady), but it is a worthwhile read:

Interesting? Her essay sounds like she regurgitated bits of information about Film Noir that's already out there. Additionally, the essay's main question is answered mindlessly as an afterthought when it really should be the beginning of the essay. Most of the Essay sounds like she was straightening the elements of film noir out for her own education. She should have kept those notes unpublished and discussed her thesis which might have been very interesting.
Even more interesting is not whether film noir mirrors contemporary American culture but whether film noir is now so deeply imbedded in the national mindset that it has become part of everyday culture.
