I saw an outfit that struck me as looking great at first glance, then weird, then back to kind of great again.
A young guy was wearing hornrims, a sage green wide wale cord jacket, dark brown v-neck sweater, tattersall shirt, and--here's the weird part--slim-fitting, narrow wale tan cord trousers. Oh, with argyle socks and docksiders.
I thought it was a very hip sort of academic/trad/boho kind of look, but can you wear mismatched cord pants and jacket? Well, obviously, you CAN, but should you?
The more I looked at him, the more I liked it.

Never tried it myself, but I think a narrow wale trouser with a wider wale jacket might be nice. Such as a dark brown or olive (I happen to like a dark greenish/brown to a more "olive" green) trouser with a tan jacket.
