With me, it's about durability. The solid cashmere ties fray, despite the brand and cost. Threads fall out of the woven ties, especially Hermes. The square-end solid silk knits are easy to pair with sport jackets, but sometimes stretch, are tricky to tie, and are disdained by my wife. It's back to printed silk ties (some of my Hermes printed silk ties date back to the mid-80's).
