I was born and brought up in a village (Stanwell) near Heathrow Airport, which is around 5 miles from Richmond, Surrey, and visited the shop many times, just to look most of the time as I was in my teens and with not much money, and buying my Harringtons, loafers and plain caps (Smoothies)....
This is where my memory is failing and need to plug the gaps.......
When the shop closed John Simons carried on with the Covent Garden shop, but, his 'partner', couldn't have been Jeff Kwintner, also set up his own shop in Kingston, Surrey and I'm sure it was in Castle Street. I remember buying a red harrington there and a beautiful pair of plain caps made, strangely enough, for Harrington by Loake, which I still have. This must have been '89/'90. It was set out similar to The Ivy Shop selling similar clothes and with a middle table and upon it were a selection of shoes...
If anybody can add any bones to the above I'd be grateful, but, what I really want to know is what was the shop name in Kingston? Did anybody else use this shop as I reckon it was only open for 2-3 years!
I have searched through other threads and this doesn't appear anywhere..

Pulse!! that's it. Thank you, Terry..
When the Ivy Shop closed I used Pulse in Kingston, so the Ivy Shop would have closed around 1989/1990, it would be nice to pin that date down. I didn't discover J Simons in Covent Garden until 1992 that's when I made my first of many visits..... Pulse wasn't open long so it may be the same guy that is now in the Forest of Dean.... Which spookily enough I'll be ten minutes from this weekend as I'm staying in Gloucester... Is he still selling clothes???
What made me think of Pulse was the thread about B.D. Baggies shirts. The first time I had heard of these was at Pulse with one of the salesman pointing them out to me. I wasn't impressed. I think this might have been the time that these were being stocked due to the lack of decent trad shirts available as was mentioned in the same thread.
Harrington rings a bell, but, I definitely haven't heard of Graduate..
I just searched for Pulse and their details popped up to my surprise!!
Pulse Menswear, 22 Castle St, Kingston, KT1 1SS. TEL:020 8392 0016
Mmmmmmm .... Pulse was going at the same time I was up at the Ivy so I don't think it was Ian's. Could be wrong.
Kingston would be very down market for an Ivy shop!
Richmond.
Windsor.
Soho.
Chelsea.
Who was that guy with the 'Aces High' Parka who worked in Bentalls & drove a Vespa up to the Marquis of Granby Pub to meet his moddy chums? Steve somebody?
Used to see him around Kingston in '85-'87 ish.
Small world!
