Thoughts on spectators

Specifically, what do you think of these?

http://cgi.ebay.it/Crockett-Jones-Paul-Smith-Half-Brogue-Spectator-43D_W0QQitemZ180117510045QQihZ008QQcategoryZ12537QQcmdZViewItem

I can see wearing them with a light grey mohair suit I have and a few more items (bowtie mandated). Are they a bit over the top? I mean, they are not the most sedate of Spectators....

Opinions welcome

Too intense for anything but "big band" dancing.

Re: Thoughts on spectators

Saw Tom Wolfe wearing those shoes on 57th St.  I think his spectators made him a spectacle.

That or the white suit. Or his books.

Re: Thoughts on spectators

Although some have comment that they wouldn't wear spectators with a suit, I think they would be just fine with an appropriately summery suit--seersucker, linen or linen blends or even tropical wool in white, cream or tan.

However, the C&J Specs linked to the original post, just seem sort of "off." Too much white relative to the darker parts, with just the toecap and the heel counter being black. I much prefer brown & white or, better yet, tan & white specs to black & white in any event.

They are missing something...perhaps a Mickey Mouse logo?

Although I agree I would like the throat black calf

But I think the main problem is that the shoe's overall shape and the heavy sole make what should be a light summer shoe, inelegant.
