decent rtw trousers in london

anyone bought decent rtw flannels in london recently? cant seem to find anything with decent amount of weight, side adjusters/pleats, and ahem ... enough 'inside leg' to be comfortable when sitting down .. whats wrong with mens retailers these days?! every man i have mentioned this to in the last week or so has the same complaint (all over the age of 40) .. surely there must be somewhere selling a decent basic trouser like this off the rack?

i cannot afford to go down the bespoke route for trousers anymore at around £700 - £1000 in the west end  .. so am on a quest to find an alternative. in the meantime i have worn down cloth around the lower part of the crotch in several trousers so much so that my old lady has had to put a patch on the insides to prevent any show ... getting desperate now. perhaps i should throw in the towel and just start wearing jeans and a hooded sweatshirt like all the other riff raff in london ...

Gieves and Hawkes had a decent selection of RTW stuff in their Hong Kong outlet. Whether that translates to the shop on the Row, I haven't the foggiest.

Re: decent rtw trousers in london

Here is what I recommend. Have a single trouser made locally how you like it. Keep the cost down a bit by choosing lower grade cloth. Once the trouser is perfect send it to Mytailor.com (Joe Hemrajani) and ask then to duplicate it exactly in any cloth you want. They have access to all the merchants across the world and the prices are outstanding with excellent quality. They are very versatile and execute exactly as you want.

Alternatively if you already have a trouser you like or are relatively comfortable in manipulating an existing pattern you can send them that.

Re: decent rtw trousers in london

Obviously that was hyperbole, however I have had to resort to a regional tailor, who is considerably cheaper than the prices mentioned above.  The only problem with tailored trousers is that every decent tailor I've tracked down is so swamped with work that the wait is excessive.  (I gave my present tailor some cloth at the beginning of December, and I've still not heard from him.  I'm desperate.)
