I'll be married at the end of summer, and I'll be wearing a 1930's/1940's black morning coat. I do not have any of the other pieces. I intend to have the shirt made to measure, which leave me with tie, trousers, and waistcoat.
I would like to stand a bit apart, but not too off-the-rails. I am thinking of check pants, but bolder than is normally worn - a chalk stripe type appearance. Should I go charcoal/white, or charcoal/light grey, or perhaps go brown!
With grey trousers, how outlandish is a coloured vest? I look quite good in purple, and it is the bride-to-be's favourite colour. The bridesmaids will be in navy, and the best man and ushers in grey lounge suits.
As for the tie, definitely windsor, but what sort of pattern and colour? Paisley is my current thinking for pattern but I'm quite undecided on colour.
I would go with the charcoal and white trousers myself. Purple vest might work but the shade would have to be right. I would tend more towards lilac with a hint of taupe. The tie could be yellow/gold and deep dark purple. Definitely paisley, but then I have over 100 paisley ties myself.
The wedding is in Vancouver, so there is a lot of leeway on the rules - in point of fact, only my mother and I know them.
Well, the classic trousers for wear with morning dress are gray with black stripes, cuff-less. For the waistcoat, light gray or buff are the classic colors. For a necktie, the Macclesfield (silver with small geometric patterns) is classic. I would counsel against a paisley tie as being a tad too sporty for the occasion. However, it is your wedding. By going with morning attire, you will probably "stand out" anyway. I would counsel against the purple waistcoat unless you want to look like a clown from the Cirque du Soleil or similar vaudevillian.
