My first day at the BBC my new boss told me that if I went drinking at lunchtime not to come back in the afternoon. "It's easier that way".

1996 that would have been.

It seems to me that today's role model is no longer the vaguely degenerate sophisticate but rather the teetotaler industrious type whose sheer monthly mortgage dullness makes everyone feel safe.
