Here's the thing with pointy shoes. When you are 5'7" and your foot is US9 EE, the added length of the point gives the shoe (to my eye) a grotesquely clownish length. And if the short man has a less troglodytic foot, say a dainty US9A size then he looks like an elf, or a temporally displaced comedia dell'arte performer.
As for lace ups, I love them on formal occasions, but for daily work where I'm slipping in and out of surgical scrubs and OR clogs, slip-ons save time when there are are other pressing matters.
What I do end up wearing a lot is full strap cordovan slip-ons. The new ones for work, the beat up ones for the weekend, and following (sot of) Guy Tales's advice, suede instead of sneakers.
FNB: the face on the girl in your avator is very beautiful. She has cute `baby cheeks' like the girl in my avator.

Chisel toes are not for me either, Shooman. I was never taken with G&G designs.
However if you like that style you should investigate some of the French companies Finsbury etc. I cannot vouch for their construction but some of their offerings are of a similar type to what you have posted.
