There used to be a shop like this in every district

I remember the adverts on the telly

'Rael Brook, Rael Brook the London look. Rael Brook shirts with the London look!'

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2320160/Frozen-time-The-clothes-store-left-day-trading-12-years-ago-6-shirts-pastel-coloured-bow-ties.html

There is a grey pensioner's zipper jacket in the fourth photo down that may appeal to some Ivyists.

That is an impressive amount of mildew.

My room has been in a worse state than that for the last ten years, that's actually quite well kept in comparison.

Arrives unpressed and minimally packaged.

It's hardly the inside of Sean Flynn's Parisien apartment left the same as it was since 1969.

We are talking about a shop that shut circa 2001, hardly the preserved gateway to another distinct time. It looks pretty naff in my honest opinion.

The shop in question doesn't look out of place with the others in that street (Apart from the next door neighbours). A Google street search will tell you all you need to know about what is happening to inner city London.

I had a Saturday job in a menswear shop and if I couldn't sell a Van Heusen shirt to the 'old girls' I would attempt to sell them a Rael Brook. I was on commission and my Saturday night drinking depended on selling the more 'up market shirts'. The Jewish senior salesman wouldn't let me sell the suits because he wanted the big commissions for himself.

I think the prices were higher than Marks in 2001 but some customers may have valued small shops and particular brand names. Dunn's was a pensioners chain in its day - but now it is a source of tweed jackets for the younger vintage crowd.

This shop has a strong feel of moribundia which was probably present long before it closed.
