Since summer is just about here, I figured that this would be an appropriate topic. I am a big fan of wool and wool/cashmere ties during the winter. My preferences have moved from the traditional wool solids to prints on wool and now finally to ties made of wool jacketing material. Any other fans? What kind of wool fabric do you prefer for wool ties?
I love to handle cashmere ties but wearing them is a problem for me because I get hot so easily. Wearing a tie is like a scarf. Really I am basically a silk man.
I like cashmere and cashmere and silk blends in the winter time. Fortunately, they don't seem to wear warmer on me. Wool I find a bit harsh.
Sam Hober, add some cashmere to your offerings!
Would you say they are appropriate for summer?
I tend to see light silk ties as appropriate for the hotter months.
I have a few cotton ties for summer, I think they look good when paired with a more casual outfit.
My wool ties tend to be either solid colors or have very muted subtle patterns.
The most outrageous wool tie I ever saw was a seven-fold Carlo Franco. I would imagine the knot would be about the size of my fist.
Cashmere tartans with tweed jackets, sanskirt.
It's appears to be some sort of houndstooth.
I'd be concerned about the fragility of cashmere ties, which fray on the edges, wrinkle, and pill. My brown cashmere Attolini tie was bought last November and has already found its way to the dustbin. The wool ties displayed by Matt may have a longer life and the houndstooth tie in particular takes the genre back to its roots.
Regards,
Steven
