Depends on the individual. Personally watching people doing 'zany' things because they're drunk bores me shitless. To your friend (who sounds like a bore), it's obviously entertaining. (I'm also bored/repulsed by the likes of Robbie Williams, Subway and Eastenders - yet millions of people think one or more of them are wonderful.)
I can categorically state that I would get much more pleasure from conversing with you when you're sober. However if I just wanted to laugh at predictable antics, then getting you under the influence of any stimulant would make that far more possible.
Of course, if your friend thinks your 'crazy' behaviour was so wonderful, maybe he should indulge in such behaviour himself (with or without the aid of alcohol).

Hmmmm - Not sure it's moral support. I certainly like to buy drinks for people though. Interesting that you make the link to morality - I've never thought of drinking in that way. As I say, interesting to think of it now.
The iGent is very middle class. Maybe lower middle class....
Aspirational. Nostalgic. ... ... ...

I was sucked into the iGent cult for awhile until I got some perspective on it. The whole business seems very cultic and gnostic, with many of its "rules" unknown the outside world. The results are more likely to be costume-y rather than a manifestation of some sort of "classic elegance and timeless style." Just my $.02.
