John Simons has often had various Grenfell coats for sale and very nice they are too. But for years you never saw Grenfell stuff advertised anywhere and I had the impression that there was some sort of dispute simmering away between the Haythornthwaite family and the company that were producing coats under the Grenfell name at a factory in the East End. Maybe that has been resolved now as a website with online shopping has appeared:

I picked up a lovely old Grenfell trench from eBay the other day. It's got a good heft to it, and I reckon it's probably a 70's model from the look of the label. Only a tenner. Really pleased with it.

I have bought two Harringtons via the site in Grenfell cloth (beige and French baby blue) in 2019. Both are great. I'll be buying more in early 2022 I envisage when their next production run is done (the Morrocan blue does look nice and is available now). A lot of their products are not for me but those are wonderful. Note the modern fit they talk about, I'd call just a normal standard one. The old classic fit was old school roomy.

I still think the same reservations about, say, Alan Paine apply to a more expensive product like a Grenfell coat. On the other hand, although I saw no 'Made In The USA' items today - not a single one - nor did I really expect to - I did see a few that were made in England or Italy which you would hesitate to give the dog to lie on after his evening meal. Our kind of shopping is never easy. All the more reason to cheer then when something does present itself. I was amazed when a blue half sleeve Makers in my size turned up on a charity shop rail in Derby circa 2009. A bit like Derby County ever winning anything post-Clough.
