Re: New Bespoke Shoes PICS

I like them.

The leather is so bright it almost looks like patent leather.

Also, it's nice to have a break from the overly antiqued look that's so pervasive these days.

Very nice shoes.

Cheers.

Re: New Bespoke Shoes PICS

The heel and the brogueing look like it could be something from G&G.

Though the ring on the trees is silver, which is also an attribute of them.

Beautiful shoes, Cruz, enjoy them for many years.  The overall design, and the chiseled toe, in particular, suggest Tony G, plus, coincidentally, I had admired the deep chocolate brown leather swatch, also nearly black, on a recent visit.

Re: New Bespoke Shoes PICS

I guess my question was too easy for such a knowledgeable crowd.

Yeah, the shoes are Tony & Dean.

So how can we describe G&G's signature? Some points have been mentioned:

-canted heel

-the mini brogue and crimping

-toe is shallower than most (works particularly well for my feet because it minimizes creasing at the vamp)

-classic English chisel toe with no flat surfaces or sharp character lines . From the side view, the tip of the toe is well above the welt.

-the small, temporary eyelets, used for lasting the shoes, seems to be an English tradition

-the sides of English shoes bulge more at the small toe area, overall have more curves to them than say the French

-3-piece trees with the traditional L-R embossing.

Any other?

Not being a fan of black shoes (but fully aware of their importance) the very dark brown, which seems almost black at night, is a nice compromise for me. Thanks for your comments.

Shooey, I'll post pics of the soles soon.

The deep chocolate leather is popular with those who like brown but who are averse to wearing brown shoes, especially in town, although I'm sure this doesn't apply to you, CD.

I do not know who made these shoes, but I will say they certainly are beautiful.  Did you request the high-gloss finish, or do they  come this way by default?  Maybe it is the flash from the camera, but I do not think I have seen such a shine on other brand new shoes.

Those are gorgeous, Cruz. The choice of color is outstanding.

Are they G&G, or should we keep guessing?

Re: New Bespoke Shoes PICS

The G&G's are very nice -- the brown has a rich, subtle tone.  I do, however, have a few quibbles.

First, and most important to me, is that the brogueing on the toe caps is not straight -- you can see it 'wandering around' in its position relative to the stitching.  I noticed this shortcoming in the first pics, and it is comfirmed by the more recent ones you posted.  I think this would bother me considerably.

Second, I find the toe cap to be too long relative to the vamp.  This is just a personal preference, and the cap's length might just be a derivative feature caused by Tony's last design.

Finally, I find the fudging on the welt to be a bit big and heavy handed.  Whether this is a function of the number of stitches/inch used by the maker or simply the way this maker fudges the welt, to me it looks somewhat more rustic than a shoe of this nature might optimally feature.

Hope you enjoy them.
