OK, that's over with.
The first two dates were cancelled, but today I had to go and ended up on a jury.
The defense attorney had a terrible suit, Four button, dark blue with sleeves to his knuckles and trousers all puddled up on top of his shoes. The prosecutor's suit was a little better, although it was of the 'slim-fit' variety, which seems to be popular among people who want to look like they borrow their little brother's clothes. It was grey, and he had a distinguished but severely boring grey tie to go with it. With all the grey, he looked like a damned alien from The X-Files.
I wore a pair of flat front khakis, brown loafers, white shirt with fine black and blue stripes, brown cord blazer (from Orvis) and dark blue knitted square end tie. Pretty conservative, but at least it fit me properly. The only other person in the room that looked like he got dressed with the aid of a mirror was the bailiff; nice blue blazer, grey trousers and white shirt with red tie.
Oh yeah, the defendant was guilty. I even got to be the foreman.
What is it with attorneys that have no clue about dressing? The only people I ever see in four button suits are black preachers. They love those things.
^
Yes. That's true. Those guys too. But that's really it.
Have you seen David Letterman recently? THAT guy's suits.... Sheesh! Pinstripes, HUGE peaked lapels, double breast. It's like he's been visiting the Fedora Lounge.

^You Ivy guys would have dug this square-end knitted tie I wore today (still have it on, because it's too awesome to take off yet). Lands' End, don't know if it's silk or what, but it is dense and supple as chain mail. Probably weighs as much as two regular ties. Hangs beautifully.
I've got what is probably the same tie. It is very nice. Like you say, dense and soft.
Well, I'll give him the benefit of seeming like he doesn't give one iota of a crap.
