Drake's buys Rayner & Sturges

SO .. get ready to pay £250+ for 'neapolitan' like shirts which are Made In the UK then. Sure it will have artisanal handwork, fancy button holes (what normal person actually gives a fuck as long as the buttons do up properly) and so on... god help us.

Owners of drakes have already fucked up drakes ties ... by changing their ties from English made English ties (with proper lining and so on) to English made Italian ties (unlined flimsy bits of cloth) .. now I predict the same thing will happen to Rayner and Sturges. One of the last English makers of shirts. So a load of iGent losers will be happy that they can now imitate their style forum heroes with RTW shirting ... while all the companies using them for traditional English shirts will have to either now buy whatever shit they produce or else go offshore ... fucking brilliant.

What make me laugh is that he owners of drakes clearly are in love with Italian style (and seemingly the worst of it .. with Liverano & Liverano partnerships and so on ... have you seen the curvature of the skirt ..welcome to my testicles comes to mind) .. but they seem to be buying English businesses out? Perhaps its an iGent evil machination for Italianesque style to totally take over the world and the dream being that every man is made to suffer tight ball hugging trousers ... short jackets ... and ties which could stand out in a crowd of 200 people.

I agree with Fruity's sentiments but we must put the deal in perspective. It appears that Rayner & Sturges (and its associated brands) was dead. If the Armoury (and I am not a fan) can keep the business going that will be great news for the factory workers in Somerset.

Re: Drake's buys Rayner & Sturges

Michael Drake used to have his suits made in Naples but he didn't take his tie production down that route.

R&S is bust and one of the owners is being charged with fraud, so I sympathise with what the Bish says.

But looking on the bright side, I got some great made-for-Ede&Ravenscroft shirts for £10 in the closing down sale and some 3-for-£25 made-for-Dunhill pocket squares.  I might flog the latter on ebay.

Good to keep it going but did those who prised Hong Kong out of the Chinese a hundred odd years ago ever dream that the Hong-Kongsters would, a century later, be buying up the remains of Ye Olde England at such a pace!

Re: Drake's buys Rayner & Sturges

Worked there for just over a year - Mr Barker of R&S lost the John Lewis order and Ben Sherman last summer - leaving very little work....... there is a high turn over of staff and 1 goes approx every month (there are only about 30-35 staff in england) ..........most orders, when I was there last year (2012) were for pink shirts and Mr Boyd changed the pay dates 6 times from May - Dec .........giving approx 3 days notice each time ......in the end my bank advised me to phone ACAS ..........I left in Jan 2013.........our orders had gone from 160 a day to 3 if we were lucky ..........Mr Boyd did have a factory in Vietnam, as this is where a lot of the shirts were made and shipped back to England to be checked - don't know what he's done with this factory  - hid it maybe
