David Frost RIP

I had recently watched Frost Nixon on TV. Nixon tells Frost that shoes without laces are effeminate. At the end of the film Frost presents Nixon with Gucci loafers.

Re: David Frost RIP

The late Peter Cook despised him.

He once quipped how he regretted saving him from drowning when they were undergraduates.

He had something of a reputation for sycophancy whilst a Cambridge.

Yes I think Frostie was ambitious, but you could say Peter Cook was a bit of a wastrel, because he did not need to try very hard. He even resented Dud's Hollywood success.

Seventy four is not that old. I would have hoped Frosty had regular medical checks. I was also surprised he was giving a talk on a liner. He would not need the money.

Re: David Frost RIP

I have always thought that Frosty was narcissistic and grossly over-rated. His interviews demonstrated a lack of intellect and knowledge of key issues. Frosty was the Parky of political interviewers - superficial, bland and often sycophantic. Sir Robin Day was far superior interviewer and a real gentleman in private. Frosty was third rate by comparison.

No strong views on Frosty - except a gift to mimicks.

Re: David Frost RIP

Parkinson had guests before the talkshow circuit had been established. They came on even when they had nothing to plug.

He had big names on his show, James Cagney, Cassius Clay etc. and no real rivals.

Frost also had some good interviews before Parkinson was established - Emil Savundra, Oswald Mosely etc. Then Frost went off to make more money and gain an international audience.

Both look good compared to Jonathan Ross/assorted homosexuals now appearing as TV chatshow hosts(the Irish one, the chatty one, etc.).
