America! America!

America prepares to take great western civilization to Syria - not to mention middle-aged self-control and masculine maturity:

Re: America! America!

Time to wheel out the poetry (Guns n' Roses) for a response:

Time can pass slowly,
things always change
You day's been numbered
And I've read your last page
You was just a temporary lover
Honey you ain't the first
Lots of others came before you woman
Said but you been the worst
Say you been the worst

I can't stand Guns N Roses now that I understand what awful awful people they are but when I was about 8 I thought Axl Rose was the fuckin man. This for me was their high point.

Re: America! America!

I remember returning from the summer holidays and finding the lower-sixth populated by a bunch of Guns & Roses fans. That was 1988, I remember having utter contempt for them, but also realised that in the space of a mere 12 months, the differences between that year and mine, was a gap of a generation or more. A long time ago now and yet, sometimes it only seems a week ago and I can almost touch those long lost days. Much the same as now though for youth.

Re: America! America!

In the summer between freshman and sophomore year of high school I accompanied my dad in France. When I came back the Guns n' Roses explosion was in full force. I disliked that kind of music and felt nothing but sadness when I heard it or saw people enjoying it.

I still remember a guy in a pizza shop wearing a tour shirt. My brother and I were overjoyed when his pizza fell out of hands as his soda jar exploded. See the pizza place used to fill up a jar of soda if one wanted and they would cap it with a plastic lid
..guess the carbonation was over the limit...we loled for years...we still do. What a sight

I remember my brother went from being an INXS fan to Happy Mondays and E culture in about three months. That would have been 1988 too.

Re: America! America!

I was straight into hip hop and rave music when I was young. I remember that vid of gnr in paris though... it was never my thing but rage against the machine were the only guitar band I liked. Now im a big fan of 80s eastcoast hardcore like gang green. Funny how your tastes can change.

Bop,

You should check out this band Death, if you haven't heard them already.  '70s hardcore from Detroit.  Seminal stuff.  3 black dudes too!

Your avatar is top-notch, Charlie.

Is that Stanley Kubrick, or what?
