I think when you wear a suit the fit is what makes it, you wont need bells, whistles and adornments when things fit right. It was nice to see how far people could push it with colour and pattern over the last 8 years but subtle style done well makes for good style. You dont want to look like youve been put together by an interior designer.
Sayin that I like those picks of B'stard in his patterned outfits but the colours and patterns are very traditional just piled on together.. brash style for the 80s conservative
Back to style:
The (generally accepted) "English Look" now comes far more from the world of costume and showbusiness than reality. 'The English Look' is a product and an export. It has little to do with what is worn in England on the whole. It is an idea, or even an ideal, for sale.
Wow, 25 pages. Haven't even read a post.
formby - I have NFI who (whom?) those photos you posted are of.
Not even enough to google.
So I have no idea of history, perceived rank, context etc.
Care to enlighten?
^ Because of the death of assimilation and a shared common American value.
But a very fair ramble.
The Upper Middles all die prematurely of cancer and heart attacks because they've got as far as they can get either in their own lifetime or generation by generation... And it kills them because it's still not enough.
That's the curse of the middle. Those above & below can have a real integrity being who and what they are, but the middles are soldier ants, worker bees and doomed to never be at rest.
I've a great affection for them because they are my people. And by affection I mean a sneering loathing.
I think I've just summed up the English class system rather neatly.
Yrs,
Upper Middle Boy.
