Re: trip to paris

I hear you.

My point was that, unlike London, where drugs and sex can be expensive in the centre, in Paris the same cheap thrills are to be had without going too far from your hotel in the middle of town.

Porte Saint-Denis should satisfy most urges on a budget. It's all there. Do the tom from behind. Nobody looks that bad from behind...

Yeah, you will be a monster for doing this and fit only for Hell. But you might also get a little bit of fun along the way...

(This is the kind of thing I write about..  Money!)

Re: trip to paris

There's no cleverness on offer here.

Just talking about sex and drugs.

Re: trip to paris

That much is true Dudley, the literature of drug taking is extremely tedious and boring.

Timothy Leary's books that are not to do with the psychedlic experience, as an example, Chaos and Cyber Culture are eminently readible, his others are not. And there's nothing worse than listening to someone's stories of getting high on weed and listening to the bass line in a heightened state of awareness before they got the munchies and went to the supermarket to buy some biscuits and crisps but then got the fear and rushed home with nothing.

The exception is booze, both the literature and talking about it is good IMO. But I do agree, the sign of a rank bore can immediately be exposed if their conversation drifts to the golf course within two minutes of striking up a conversation with them.

Re: trip to paris

I think it's valid when we are talking about traveller's tales. You now know either to visit Porte Saint-Denis or to avoid it.

Mr. Hepcat's point still stands - There's no need to leave the centre of Paris and if you do you may regret it. All the things that one might want to visit the slums for (all I can think of are sex and drugs) are to be had cheaply in the middle of town. London is quite different to this with the middle of town being expensive in all respects and so a trip to the badlands makes sense, if you have a taste for the sordid.

Here's an old thread I did from Paris - http://forums.filmnoirbuff.com/viewtopic.php?id=2162
