Re: The English Look...

... To import a debate from elsewhere... How about "The British Look" ?

Although I happen to be English, I know that 'our' look isn't remotely ours. It's an amalgamation of things we stole from elsewhere.

The English don't actually exist.

They're as substantial as the steam rising from the spout of a lovely old teapot.

Re: The English Look...

A very good telling off.

And one heard.

So let me try to make a point to redeem myself...

We're back to marketing once more, aren't we? Things being sold as 'English'. 'England' as a brand. A construct.

Any use  ?

Re: The English Look...

If you mean 'The Archers' it is at the forefront of political correctness. All sorts of 'alien peasantry' will feature in due course.

Nature programmes are not something that interest me a great deal. Paxman and Humphreys are celebrity interviewers. Just because they appear grumpy does not mean that their interviewing techniques are effective.

Re: The English Look...

Never off duty, I've just been talking to an old chum about how, as a marketing term, 'English' is what's used abroad and 'British' is what's used in England. 'England', he opined, is our greatest export. A thing for the non-English primarily.

The chap's name is Peter Wallis.

On an unrelated note, what is thought of the style of Peter York ?

Re: The English Look...

Your view of Peter York's dress sense would interest me.

I see him as very English.

Re: The English Look...

Got plenty of the English look last week in London. Gotta say, not as much adventurous dress as I usually see there. That a trend these days or just an aberration?
