Re: A woolybacks take on 80's fashion....

I wore Lacoste from about '83 onwards.

It depended on where you lived and how old you were at the time. Young kids can't really venture far to seek out suppliers.

Ralph Lauren and Armani I didn't see until the 90's. It may have been there but wasn't on my Radar.

Again, remember that a lot of casual style was worn by kids, and style-wise would have been provincial, provincial in the sense that they wore what they had easy access to. So certain 'sects' would have developed within the overall casual scene.

Interesting, I definitely missed it!

Ralphy and Armani was on my radar in 86/87, but was difficult to procure and was horrendously expensive if you could. The shirts were more expensive than now.

I find it interesting Lacoste jumped over the UK to the States so long ago, then crept back in the 80's.

The sports stars certainly made people more aware of the brands, but I don't think they were actually influential in casual fashion. They put the clothes in the shops and it went on a tangent from there.

I mean, I never heard anyone saying they wanted to look like McEnroe or whoever...
