Back to all the interesting stuff after the latest wave of silly quibblers have all gone Shhhh again...
Ah the smells of youth... !
Creosote (Now illegal, I believe)...
More like that next just as soon as the dull guys get off our thread...
Linseed oil...
Petrol lawn movers - That's a double: Petrol and freshly mown grass...
Good call -The Cotswolds were and are deeply suburban. They're pretend country. All manicured and neat.
Great Mod style on Norman W. there ...
Time for some Python sketches.
Not the one I was looking for but it'll do for now.

I think we can underestimate the power of the common culture and expriences in the UK. Much of what Jim has said, at least some of it, strikes a resonance with me.
/\ Look at how the Internet poster, Mr. Formby cares.
And he's wrong.
Just to care proves that he is wrong.
He doesn't know about this world.
Nobody made 'sacrifices' in the world I'm talking about. The concept is alien to this world.
Cars also meant nothing in this world.
... Funny the idea that I can be attacked by talking about a life that I left behind. Formbs can certainly attack the life I talk about from his outsider's point of view, but I can't possibly be attacked. I dumped all this crap as a teenager.
So care away.
Nobody else does. Far more enjoyable is remembering the smell of Chelsea Leather Food... And the smell of your sister's new saddle before it ever touched the disgusting back of a sweaty horse...
I can't quite remember, but Mr. Formby is from The North, is he not ?
Well, the North is not the South and never has been.
All we have here is somebody trying to get involved in somebody else's thread to try to spoil it...
I want to talk about Blanco next - Not the sad little class war of anybody else.
- And here's another smell - A wet Lloyd Loom chair left out in the rain...
Class is rubbish. But doesn't it still matter to some ?
Pointless.
I individually love various Northerners, but en masse I'm also happy to say that I can't stick them...
If you love Northerners as a blanket statement then you have to love all of them - The Yorkshire Ripper, Old Mother Shipton, Stuart Hall ...
Stupid.
Drop all these daft categories of class and geography and just like people.
Come and join the sane !
A sensible retreat by Mr. F. So many posts deleted.
The thing is... It was the attitude to money that was so different. Most use money to do more - My lot used money to do less. Money was insulation against having to be involved in a world they detested.
Once all four of us kids had flown the nest and were no longer a drain on the family finances there was still no money spent of foreign holidays or better cars. Such things were wasteful. In fact, once we'd all stopped doing family holidays together my parents never went on holiday ever again. Waste of money.
When I used to splash out on going to New England and Paris my Father regarded it as the final proof of my insanity.
Again this is the topsy turvy reality of this world. You might imagine that people who could afford to would do all the things you might want to do yourself. They don't. Not all of them. Some are quite happy at home. Mainly this is due to another character trait: The hatred of 'fuss' and disruption...
A death in the family was dreaded because it was so disruptive, expensive and involved so much fuss. The Undertaker was another great family enemy as he was such a crook and the worst thing was that we had no choice but to be cheated by him. All grieving and sorrow were soon overtaken by fury that that damned spiv was cashing in on our dead Granny.
Funny stuff, if you can find the funny side.
Back to smells... The bathroom cabinet - What was Witch Hazel actually for? And then there was my Father's 'Styptic Pencil' which you mustn't touch with your dirty little fingers. Ever ...
Our whole house smelled, come to think of it. It was draughty and cold so smells stayed. Different rooms had different pongs. A blind person could have navigated the house with ease based on the whiffs that each room contained...
More later -
Best.
Bop's comment reminds me of Mr. Chensvold's thesis that I ride roughshod over the Internet because I am in pain... Such an outsider's view.
Nobody on Morphine is in pain, nor are they too hot or too cold or upset... And if they were they'd just take more Morph.
It's a wonderful vantage point: To be in the world but not of it.
Untouchable.

The most interesting subjects are the ones at the top and bottom. Jackie is like a 7 year old Irene Handl. The three kitted out like Just William come out with some interesting comments too.

... I do love all the impotent attempts to 'upset' me though... All we learn form them are what those who seek to upset me care about...
Being 'Street Savvy' ?
Cars and holidays abroad ?
They shoot, they miss.
We laugh.
