What's the heaviest weight of worsted that Smith makes? Or made maybe 15 years ago? I'm trying to determine the weight of a cloth that makes up a suit of mine. Just sort of curious. Compared to some stuff that I know is 12 and that I'm pretty sure is 18, I reckon it's gotta be at least 14 oz. I guess the easiest way is to take it in to the tailor and compare to swatches, eh?

I'm heading over to a tailor in a few days. I wanted to look at some fabric swatches, in addition to the bolts that are there. I'm looking in particular for a lighter weight Shetland herringbone weave in maybe 12 oz. Or even 11 or 10 ozs. I want something just on the high side of respectably middle-of-the-road quality/price. Anyone have some suggestions?
Thank you for the attribution. I think in these times of diminishing expectations, Teplitz' law is more important than ever.
Byoloye,
Good looking cloth. Do you have a picture of the jacket made up? Why are they discontinuing this cloth?
And who made the blue suit you are wearing? It would interest me to hear a little about that.
Enjoy!
Dear FNB, The largest family owned merchant in England is Lear Browne & Dunsford LTD of which Harrisons of edinburgh is part of not only is the collection larger than rivals it is constantly investing in new qualities such as Moonbeam which is Harrisons new angora and lambswool jacketing coming out this fall....has anyone heard about this new range
You wear your clothes with panache, Bolaji.
Those Barbera swatches look incredible. I don't find those checks fuddy-duddy at all. With the right cut they can make a classic but contemporary jacket.

Regarding Harrisons Moonbeam you are right...i have been told these designs are much more city than country with a more european look than Harrisons usual, but still made in england...maybe scotland.I think smiths had something similiar...?
Bolaji, all fantastic-looking stuff.
The suit in the wedding pics is amazing. Great fit. Hugs the waist gracefully.
Quick question: how have those around you reacted when they see the polka dot lining? Personally, I think it's a really fun detail. Definitely a "conversation piece."
bull, Marc and Suds,
Thank you for your kind words.
Funny enough, I don't think many people noticed the lining. The fact that I wore a 2 button DB was enough to start a conversation.
I really must credit Martin with suggesting the pink polka dots with the DB. He had already made me a navy pin-stripe, with a black and white polka dot lining. So, I was willing to trust his judgement with the DB.
Best regards,
Bolaji
Bolaji,
I like that polka dot lining. It reminds me of those old polka dot mufflers that dandies used to wear.
I love the polka dot linings where do they come from does anyone know? thanks.
