Re: Is Simon Crompton the new Francis Bown?

if I wore a huntsman tweed suit and went cycling in it I would undoubtedly be chased by a group of cannabis dealers (& part time thieves) who hang out in a park through which the cycling path I need to use cuts across .. they already set their bloody Rottweiler on me which nipped at the bottom of my Surgical appliance tracksuit bottoms once, if I wore huntsman tweed shooting suits  it would be sport for these asbo rascals as well as just business (I have an old huntsman tweed suit which lies at the back of my cupboard). also if they ripped the bottom of the neat pick stiched turn up I hate to think what the repair bill would come to .. "How much Peter!".

ps don't worry guys, fruity had enough in the old tank and peddled like the clappers leaving the dogs in the background .. but old fruits don't need any extra excitement!

well, not really, I live in a suburb in London where you have houses worth £5m+ and social housing aka council houses about 1/2 a mile from each other.

West Kensington .. which for anyone outside of London is the rough end of Kensington. The phenomenon I speak of though applies to most residential areas in London, even South Ken has council houses within parts of it (although most have passed into private hands since mass council house sell off in the 80s).

Re: Is Simon Crompton the new Francis Bown?

Fulham a decade or so ago was considered a dump, full of ex Irish émigrés post war, but as nouveau Rich foreign buyers (Arabs, followed by Russian and more recently Chinese) started buying up in Kensington, Chelsea, the former owners in these areas happily sold up to them at higher and higher prices and moved into places like Fulham. Now even Fulham is ludicrously expensive.

London property has been in a perpetual unstoppable bubble for at least 30 years only temporarily stopped by the recession in the 90s, a bump in the road after which it took off towards the moon. Engineered by the government to give people a feeling of prosperity to compensate for falling real wages. Unfortunately it means for ordinary young people who don't work in a small group of elite professions that they are unable to buy even a small flat in London, as youre looking at £200-300k for a small flat you couldn't swing a cat in. £30/40k average salaries and flats which cost more than 10 times that. How the fuck is that supposed to work unless you get the banks to lend recklessly (which they obligingly did and look where that got us). Politicians in the UK are such utter sanctimonious ignorant dickheads.

Really? Send me over the ad & we can get into the property flipping game Dudley smile

Perhaps right at the top, the Grosvenor Square type properties bought where the other party officials/tax man cant see them? I don't really follow prices on this sort of thing, way out of my league, I'm trying to find a place which make a decently priced trousers for gods sake!

Re: Is Simon Crompton the new Francis Bown?

well knowledge of 'classic menswear' and tailoring has become so debased amongst the bulk of men that there is a space for old comps. if you walked into harrods to buy a suit, the sales staff are totally fucking clueless on anything so at least comps is adding some value for the customer base, downside being if he started telling too much truth people would realise what over priced tat harrods sells in the clothing department.

he also has a penchant for talking about wearing jeans etc and casual wear with tailored clothing which goes down well with the fence sitters .. who want to look 'all stylish and classy like'.

I disagree, I think the mordor of the iGent universe, the permanent style blog is becoming more & more powerful, his last post was for the almighty ralph lauren who id imagine has very deep pockets.

Re: Is Simon Crompton the new Francis Bown?

come on though, why is compy so much worse than all the other shysters and hucksters in the menswear business aka most of them (see above ralph lauren who's made a lot more dough than comps) who promise the bourgeoisie 'reachers' class & stylishness but instead deliver a vapid ephemeral simulation of what is real style.

Re: Is Simon Crompton the new Francis Bown?

http://www.permanentstyle.co.uk/2013/12/cifonelli-navy-suit.html#.UqHfqX8gGSM

I would guess that compy freeloaded this rather boring cifonelli suit which doesn't seem to exhibit any of the usual cifonelli hallmarks. Wonder why cifonelli need compey to promote their suits since at their prices I doubt their customer base of African despots and Arab potentates are readers of PS blog?

Such a boring looking suit, 11 once navy, looks like something you'd pick up off the rack with its ordinary line, flat front trouser (comps claims he finds these more comfortable). He says a suit like this would cost over 5000 euro!

Compey is such a prole, after wearing all this high end bespoke tailoring he still hints often that he prefers casual clothing, trendy chinos and a smedley jumper type stuff, he even made a post recently about how tailoring should be worn more casually smile he actually goes to places like huntsman and cifonelli and asks for flat fronted trousers, fitted at the hips jeans style (with no braces). He understands nothing about cloth picking up ordinary light weight worsteds or ugly dowdy tweeds (or possibly pushed on him by tailors who want ton limit their cost of marketing their clothes on his blog). The fit is usually awful. It's almost like he's gone out of his way to look like a prole playing dress up. Fucking rat.
