Two questions about London

1. How does one wear these wild striped shirts made by T&A? I have never seen a person wearing these. The shop assistant in the basement told me that most of what they sell are blue/white/pink shirts and rarely people buy the wild stuff.

2. I rarely see men with white pocket squares in London, is that more a continental look?

Re: Two questions about London

What are 'wild striped shirts'. 1970s marketing men used to go in for that sort of thing. You can wear any shirt. Just unpack it and put it on.

Not many wear pocket handkerchiefs now - full stop. Used to be all the rage at Mass on Sunday when I was in short trousers. 'One for show, one for blow.'

The T&A back catalogue is a riot. Maybe a lost world now. The best are 30's, not 70's.

Re: Two questions about London

The so called 'wild striped' shirts are not my cup of tea, but if they were, I would likely go the Duchamp type, before T&A, but only on account on the larger collar on the T&A. This is fine IMO:

Re: Two questions about London

I have Harvie and Hudson football stripe in navy and also in blue. Not really wild IMO.

Mine are button cuff.

The multicolour Duchamp jobs would remind me of 70s marketing men. Great ! Super!

Re: Two questions about London

I've seen Contract Engineers, Quantity Surveyors, Accountants and Financial Directors sport those style shirts. No one else though.

Hmmm, I don't know, all those positions have the potential for skulduggery when you get creative and greedy.

Re: Two questions about London

Stupidity can often be misaken for bravery, and if they get away with it, well, there's an illusion of being cute/street wise/and very clever.

Also, big companies with share prices to worry about, will brush it under the table, you may be asked to leave, but you will get a job on another continent, but you won't be doing jail time. So you don't have to be that brave.

Re: Two questions about London

The pocket hanky (Or 'Pocket Square' in online America) question is more interesting. Never worn one, never would, nobody in my family ever did. But the advice on the (Largely American) forums is always 'Try a pocket square'.  An interesting US / UK divide ?  I think they're just clutter... Along with tie clips, collar pins, and wearing your glasses on a little gold chain.

Interesting to read the views on colourful shirts striped or otherwise.
