Contrast collared shirt is referred to as 'the charlatan shirt' of the red trousers blogspot. I think they are separate from 'wild stripes'. They just remind me too much of Wee David Steel MP and that is the 'deal breaker'.
Put it this way, the red would look great with black shorts and red socks, with a suit or a jacket - not so much. The clue is in the name of the stripe.
Buffy, I'd have no problem wearing that wide stripe pretty much anywhere with a suit and tie or jacket and tie. I wouldn't wear a red stripe just because I dont think it suits me and is a bit what someone who doesn't get it would wear. The ones I have are various blues on white, white on blue, some purplish and a few pink on white, maybe white on pink, I can't quite recall. They don't seem particularly loud to me at all. I see them as a bit formal and businessy.
Actually on second look, I wouldn't wear the dark navy or the red. The navy is too dark for those broad stripes. Not so bad on the other stripes.
I have now given away all my Barber stripes Candy stripes Awnaling stripes shirts.
My shirt collection is now a peaceful and tranquil orgasm of white, light blue, light punk ("Blush" in H&K lingo) and white.
Bump for this thread, great stuff!
I did notice in Turnbull & Asser, their slim fitting shirts carry a much reduced range of peacock stripes, what this indicates, perhaps fat guys are sartorially more bolder?
Referring back to Beestonplace's original posts on how he's never seen anyone wearing T&A's more outlandish stripes and checks, I have observed the same phenomena with the Omega Speedmaster, I have only ever seen one other person sporting one in my life. Someone is buying and wearing them though, but who?
Speedmasters are probably worn by the same people who wear multi-coloured striped shirts.
In the interest of sartorial endeavour, I have ventured into this realm of multi-coloured striped shirts, purchasing from the last of the few in T&A's sale in my size. Thank me not, my neck has gone up a half-a-size in any event, and we shall soon experience the peacock delights, or not of these mythical Jermyn street shirts.
Coloured shirts are overrated. The slim-fit T&A ones appeal to the igent population, whereas the H&K "Ice" light blue ones are the most versatile AND flattering shirts I have ever worn.
I have to admit to only wearing white, cream, sky blue and pink shirts with a tie. However, I was flicking though the shows for SS 16 collections on Youtube (as you do) and watching the Dunhill show I noticed some great combo's of patterns with shirts and ties that the models wore. Rather turned me on TBH. Fabulous stuff...
