The Navy pin-stripe blazer
What are people's thought's on wearing a classic 3/2 roll navy pin-stripe blazer as an odd jacket rather than part of a suit. Did these come as single items from Brooks Brothers etc and can they be integrated into a modern wardrobe and look stylish and casual?
What do you think the best combinations are to compliment them? (trousers, shirts etc?)
Seems to be an unconventional thing thesedays but I'm sure it can work!

Pretty much. I personally stray from even wearing a solid color orphaned suit jacket. My rule is that if the pants or jacket are to be worn with a mate, just wear them with the mate and not without.
The first thing I think when I see someone wearing an orphaned pinstripe jacket is "That's an orphaned pinstripe jacket". It's just something you see gaudy teen celebs doing.

I get what you're saying you but there were pinstripe blazers manufactured as odd jackets that were always intended to be worn without a matching half.
In the 30s/40s/50s many great dressers wore them with cream or light grey flannels and imho pulled it off. I understand if this is too leftfield for your personal tastes.
Did you look at the photos of John Simons? I think there's a high degree of personal style and panache in that look but then again I like to break the rules!

Yeah. I looked at the pictures. I think his "panache" you speak of may lend itself to him pulling that look off. But, again, I just have a hangup on the pinstripe "rule".
Can you cite examples of the odd pinstripe jackets you refer too? I can't pull anything to the forefront of my mind at the moment. I think whenever I've seen someone in a pinstripe jacket I've just assumed it had matching pants somewhere.
We are kind of rule-bound over here on the Talk Ivy forum. You might get more bang for your buck posting this over at the Wardrobe.

If you're really keen on experimenting with a striped jacket, maybe you should go for seersucker. You'd get your stripes and it would be perfectly "acceptable" as a blazer.

Or a "regatta" blazer with bolder stripes? Those are meant to be worn as true separate blazers. But, I still maintain, pinstripe = suit. Did you come across a 3/2 pinstripe jacket that you just love? Or did you blow the pants out of a suit? Do you just like the look of pinstripes and separate trousers? Feeling inspired by that John Simons pic?

You could do it in a Linen or Harris Tweed. Wool/Silk mix works too.

all about context, you could wear it and look good in a smart park, perhaps a garden party or perhaps even on holiday somewhere, wouldn't go for it anywhere else personally.
