Don't like them. I'm surprised but the taper looks good on the actual fit pics even if the length is ridiculous. I imagine they would be about 7 at the hem by the time I had them taken up, which is perfect.
But that rise is way too low for me. I want 11.5 to 12 inches. That's a deal breaker.
I'll just continue buying cheap 1980's US made 519's I think and have them tapered. That's worked out for me about 4 times now.
Yeah, that's the way to go. Just half an inch more and I'd be willing to give these a go.

Like with the Brooks collar, those fractions of an inch make all the difference.
Just buy the 36" and get them adjusted - haha
i just purchased a pair of 519s cords. I think they are from the 80's (not lvc)
I'm 6'4" about 185 lbs and the 36 x 32 fits very nicely. just a touch over 36 in the waist, rise is 12", leg opening right around 8.25.
Anybody know of any actual denim jeans that fit anything like the 519s?
I suspect the reason is that they have never really been out of fashion. Every fashion that comes along erodes a little of what came before and for us lot that has proved to be a very bad thing.
I'm not sure if these chaps are an option for you Oliver based where you are but Bop and Henry have both used these chaps and are very pleased. I will be investing at the end of the month I think in a pair of the made to measure cords.

I have just noticed that you can get them lined relatively cheaply.
An extra £6 for cotton lining and £8 for flannel lining.
They think of everything these guys ,really impressed.
It seems we're all in the same mindset; I'm thinking of getting a pair of LVC 519s cloned by Alexanders this month or the next. Hoping to get a swatch of the colours before I make a final decision on the virgin pair.
I'll post measurements for a W32 up on here, if anybody fancies doing something similar.
I wasn't aware of the lining option. Thanks for the heads up, armchaired!
Oli, a pair of selvedge jeans in a 519 fit sounds great. Have you ever tried the edwin ed55s? I have a pair, they fit quite similar but the rise could be higher
Bump ^^
Can any of you Bedford guys help me... There are some bedfords on sale and I'm curios about these pants. First, how are they meant to fit? I'm trying to decide between size 33 and 34. The 33 fit spot on and the 34 are a bit roomier. I personally don't like anything skinny but from what I can gather from reading this thread this pants are meant to be on the slim side (not skinny but slim) a bit of a 60's California vibe.
So I'm thinking that getting them with lots of room will defeat the original purpose and make them look weird, I would not be wearing thes pants to work but rather would wear them on weekends for casual outings with a tucked in OCBD or a polo.
For those of you with Bedfords: how are they holding up and do you still reccomend them? The ones I'm interested are the fog color from last season. Also, do they strech?
Thanks !

I'd say they are meant to fit on the slim side. Not skinny, exactly how you describe. My pair is from a few seasons back, the colour was called brindle. I bought it in my size and it is rather slim and on the short side, in an early 60s vibe. I like it very much and would buy one again. Not much of stretching going one.
Actually I bought one again but had to send it back because the cut was different. I wouldn't even fit in it although it was the same size. The fabric was a bit skimpy, too.
Hit & miss. But if you can try them on in a shop, you see what suits you best?
The main difference between the original issue LVC Bedford Cords and the currently available version is the back rise and not the front rise (there's only 0.5" difference tween them at the front but nearly a 2" inch difference at the back).
The originals have a rear rise similar to the 1947 501 and so sit higher on the waist than the current issue which have a squarer cut (closer to the 60s 501) and so feel a lot lower waisted.
There's also the '75 519 Bedfords available now from LVC and their fit is back closer to the original reissue.
Wow thank you Action baby! The rear rise in the ones I tried felt good. Sounds like they are the new batch. The guys working the shop are into that whole bearded mountain man hipster vibe and are wearing them skinny style, I'm trying to see if I can get the right fit...
Yep - they've ruined the Bedfords... why oh why oh why....
There's a seller on UK eBay called something like AmateursandProfessionals (I can't find the link at the mo') that still has stock in some sizes of the original fit in a few colours.
If you do an eBay search for LVC Bedford he'll turn up in the list.
The current crop of Bedfords have a similar cut to the original 514 which sit on the waist (not exactly hipsters but a lower rise than the other products available at the time), there was a limited Levis reissue in selvedge denim in 2010 but this cut was also available in Bedford cord, corduroy and a twill in the mid 60's.
Yeah, that seems to be the only seller of those on ebay. I just find it hard to tell which are the "good ones".
Acton, what would you say - under which category do those fall which Oi Polloi are selling at the moment?
AB
You are quite right, the new olive and mustard ones have a difirent slimmer fit than the older sand and khaki models, which the guys at the shop kept referring to as the older editions.
At 50% I might take my chances, especially since these older ones are not being produced anymore.
Thank you for informative reply. I wonder why they mess so much with the cuts.

From what I could tell the older cut ones are in Rigid Fog and Praire Sand. The new, bad slim cut ones are the Olive and Mustard ones.
