More beer last night, but this time I stuck to the Utyp pilsner, still didn't agree with me, just a blury fuzzines with no resonance at all. Will definitely have to resort G&T's when I am next out.

Lustau East India Solera sherry. A nice glass at this time of the year and you do not get ripped off with sherry. No good or bad years to worry about. I wish I had visited Lustau instead of Gonzales Byass, but they do not offer daily tours.

Had a glass of Glenfarclas 105 to follow.

Girvan single grain launch at the Whisky Shop in St Pauls.

Had the no age statement, 25 year old and 30 year old. All 42% non chill filtered. Liked the first two - 30 year old not so much.

Kingfisher or Cobra? I always have to be reminded. Cobra is the bottled stuff and considered better.

I don't know how we spend so much on a Christmas do at an Indian restaurant.

Furthermore, I am never sure why we do not visit more interesting Asian restaurants given the number of Asian staff.

I suspect the answer is Sikhs, Punjabis, Gujaratis and Anglo Indians mostly eat at home. We could not get in to the Punjabi place off the Shaftesbury Avenue - near that jazz shop. The interesting restaurants off the Commercial Road are run by Sylhettis, Bangladeshis etc.

Mortlach Signatory Independent bottling, 19 yo cask strength matured in sherry butt.
Just right for X-Mas. Glad to hear Diaego will start to release Mortlach as its own brand.

It's used mostly as a blend. You can get independent bottlings here and there but not widely distributed.
Worth looking for. Unfortunately I've also heard Diaego plans to market it as a "premium" brand so I plan to get my hands on a few of the independent bottlings.

I've had one of the Provenance bottlings of Mortlach and pretty good it was too. When it comes to independent bottlings you can do no wrong with Gordon MacPhails, Provenance and Signatory. All quality stuff. But there are a lot of very average independent bottlers out there.

Cheap vodka and cheap Bloody Mary* mix in plastic bottle - ice cubes in fridge. Yum. Yesterday 40C - cool change today down to 18C now - windows open cool breeze through. Big xmas weekend. Tomorrow 200Ks up country for Ms. family xmas, then Sunday my family 25+ of them come over to my place for all day xmas etc bbq, drinks, night time, then Monday we close off street for street xmas party.

And someone said when I said I was doing nothing on xmas day - oh how sad you could come to our place - like fuck we will. A day of rest. Maybe go to the zoo - no one around and a great place.

Last year I managed to have the flu over christmas, yesterday, I had the feeling I was coming down with it again, so I had two Antiquary 21 year old whisky with Schweppes soda water before dinner, followed by two Remy Martin XO Exellence and woke up this morning as fit as a fiddle. Either the brandy or whisky killed whatever it was coming on.

Asbach 3 year old, German brandy at €13.00 a bottle, appears to be excellent value, but I may have a different opinion in the morning.

Edit: By god that was good stuff! I decided to stop after the third one as I was enjoying it way too much. Apparently, Asbach had a cult following with the Brit armed forces stationed in Germany during the cold war. And I can understand why, a winning combination of quality and price.
