Re: Peter O'Toole 2/8/1932 – 14/12/2013

There's a great anecdote of him going out and getting pissed one lunch time with a friend, then they dived back to the theatre to watch the play and halfway through the first act O'Toole turned to his friend and said "Now watch this bit, this is where I come......oh!"

Evidently no fans of Lawrence of Arabia here then, or actor hellraisers too? Whats wrong with yer' all? Except Formby and me of course.

That bottom picture is from How to Steal A million. Great film.

I loved to see the reconnected Lawrence with the bits that were found and the overdub by the then still alive actors. Of course the General had a larynx issue and he used a machine but still got it right. The reckon O'Toole's voice after 40 years of fags and piss ups sounded better than in 1964!

Whatever the ownership of the poor old DT, they do still have writers - and I love the end of this:

It's too early for anything stronger than coffee here - but it's strong coffee and I second the toast of the title with: ''To Epic Wasters Everywhere!''

I once went out in Clerkenwell and woke up on the Isle of Bute - choppy crossing too, they told me.

Oh I meant the absolute silliness of being drunk in a most delightful and carefree way. I didn't mean the utter derangement of acid, never tried it.

Tried mushrooms once, when you could by them in the head shops. Half a punnet was the dose, but a friend and I only took a quarter of the recommended dose. I can't say feeling like I was 10 feet tall with floppy arms did anything for me, combined with waves of laughter followed by paranoia. Later, as I walked through the center of the Hague, it had a grandiose quality as though I was back-packing through the Grand Canyon.

Re: Peter O'Toole 2/8/1932 – 14/12/2013

I should make a confession.

I've never watched Lawrence of Arabia, always out when they put the thing on. I've never seen Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid either and only watched The Deer Hunter for the first time earlier this year. Not O'Toole films I know,  but considered classics by some.

Anyway, my favourite O'Toole film is The Ruling Class, where he plays the insane aristocrat who thinks he's the son of god. Excellent.

I also thought that he was good in The Night of the Generals where he played a murderous Wehrmacht general.

Hepcat, my med school roommate, now the Chairman of a prestigious Medical School Dept of Anesthesiology was a student of mushrooms and grew them in a lovingly tended terrarium. Your post brought back memories.
Here's what I can tell you. A full dose is more so, with vomiting.
The floppiness makes descending stairs an act to be approached with trepidation (which of course is absent in appropriate doses) whose consequences are best absorbed by the young and fit with shorter healing times.
The awareness tends to disappear at vomit doses, so best to have a designated straight man for cover (don't listen to him he's so drunk he can't even stand straight!) so as not alarm the onlookers.
Simple acts like turning on a stove or opening doors are best handled by the straight man as they present mountainous intellectual quandaries to the affected.
Ahhh, but the Grandiose quality with hallucinatory accoutrements...
As for LSD, it is psilocybin's evil twin.
