Re: Unexpected Ivy in movies

/\ great topic, keep them coming ... good to have a thread to pop these sightings into ... when the movie is modern and isn't completely Ivy or only has bits of Ivy here and there you don't want to make a big deal out of it but sometimes the things you see in them are noteworthy .........

I see Kid is lined up as the geek goody two shoes. A bit like how Carlton was against Will on FP from around the same time.. maybe it was a black kid prep school thing going on in American culture what would be the reverse of a wigger?

Re: Unexpected Ivy in movies

I can't get an image for this, but recently I rewatched the Black Gestapo (for the 1st time in almost 20 years). One of the white gangsters wears a beautiful sack blazer and flannels, with a classic blue OCBD. I was pleased to see that although he was a racist, psychotic rapist, he had some decent clothes.

some sort of banal legitimacy

Re: Unexpected Ivy in movies

I watched two movies today The Butler and Saving Mr Banks.
Both had some sartorial interest the civil rights section from the early sixties
in the Butler (lots of button downs and Cardigans)

Saving Mr Banks was mostly set in 1962 LA nice scenes in the Hotel that Mrs Travers
was staying in nice shots of Madras Jackets.

Re: Unexpected Ivy in movies

After years of being obsessed with Jim Hutton's wardrobe in 'Walk Don't Run' ('student architect Ivy' for want of a better description),
re-watching it today and I noticed that nearly all the male Japanese characters and extras are rocking variations on a 'natural shoulder' theme.
It's set during the '64 Tokyo Olympics and some of the 'scene setting' footage at the start shows loads of of Japanese gentlemen looking amazingly sharp.

Re: Unexpected Ivy in movies

I rewatched City of the Dead the other night and while the movie's no great shakes, there's lots of choice New England collegiate style on screen.

Not a movie but there are some quite good collar rolls in the US comedy Arrested Development.

Good spotting Stan.  Love Office Space.  Probably about time for me to revisit it too.  "Back up in your ass with a resurrection!"
