I have difficulties imagining for whom this style would be flattering and appropriate.

Very old men, who could also get away with Mephistos and a heavy flannell chalkstripe (think retired Christ Church don, dribbling soup when in Ox & Cox).

Men in ther early 20ies?

But noone in between. Just imagine - you are in your 40s and this shoe would add another 5-10 years, as opposed to a clean-cut oxford.

Love that shoe. In fact, l am seriously considering ording a bespoke shoe in black like that from Cleverley. It's in my top three bespokes to have. l would get one in black. It's a really REALLY conservative shoo.

Yes formby, is it just me but when leather starts to take on these weird organic forms with folds in the leather like that it just freaks the shit out of me.

It's a gusset loafer. Not may personal favorite style, but it has been around forever and has it's charm.

The fact that they are über traditional does not obviate the fact they are more than a tad frou-frou. For Shooman, Meister, and Isshinryu who have impressive collections and are very sophisticated connoisseurs that shoe may make a lot of sense. but for an ignorant beginner like me there are a lot of other shoes I'm going to get before I think of that one.

l want a Cleverley like this, but with a wing tip thingee and a brogues heal counter area. Wanted something like this for about 10 years. Cleverley's off-the-rack `Jack' model doesn't fit me, and l would like something a touch smarter.

Ha, as much as I love the shooey and respect all opinions on here thats not enough reason to be oblivious to how those shoes actually look. Whether the style is traditional or not. I suppose alot of the issue id have would be hidden by the trouser. I can see them as being practical for anyone not beiny able to lean over their gut in order to tie their laces....hmmm maybe I should get a pair.

Ok....let me try.

The ideal candidate for wearing these lovely shoes would be someone who looks like the guy who is running that "style" website...no, not Crouton, but the other one...more middle aged and American...who looks like Fraisier, the psychatrist.

Put him in these shoes, add a pensioner-coloured chino with two pleats on each side, and an ODD jacket as Igents call them, preferrably in mid blue or petrol blue, with a weird large overcheck.

Perfect. Adds 10 years and 10 pounds.

Now, add Igent stuff (walking stick, boater, summer gloves in ticket pocket, 2nd walking stick, monocle, beard, hair on back {is the new beard} lipstick, no socks) and - done.
